NZXT PSU Family Explained: Platinum, Gold, Gold Core, and Bronze

When you’re building a PC, the power supply doesn’t always get the spotlight, but it’s the unsung hero that keeps every component running smoothly. A quality PSU means stable power delivery, reliable performance under load, and long-term peace of mind for your system.

Every NZXT PSU starts with the same foundation: reliable power, modern safety protections, and support for the latest ATX 3.1 and 12V-2x6 standards. From there, the lineup splits into tiers based on efficiency and design: Platinum, Gold, and Bronze. Gold Core is our value-focused take on Gold, offering the same efficiency rating with different internal components.

Here’s a quick overview:

  • Platinum (1500W): For flagship GPUs, multi-GPU setups, or professional workstations where top efficiency and wattage are essential.
  • Gold (850W, 1000W, 1200W): A premium choice for almost any modern high-performance gaming PC.
  • Gold Core (750W, 850W, 1000W): A smart balance of efficiency and value for versatile builds.
  • Bronze (750W): A solid entry point for everyday systems and casual gaming.

Wattage

Along with efficiency, wattage is the other key factor in choosing a PSU. Your CPU, GPU, and other components determine the baseline, and many builders add extra headroom for upgrades or overclocking. Online calculators can help estimate your needs (we don’t host one yet), and GPU makers like NVIDIA and AMD also list recommended PSU wattages for their cards. Use these as guides, then add some extra headroom if you plan to expand tomorrow.

With NZXT’s lineup, wattage options start at 750 and scale up to 1500:

  • 750 – 850W: A great fit for most modern gaming PCs depending on your GPU.
  • 850 – 1000W: Ideal if you’re running higher-end GPUs, overclocked CPUs, or want extra upgrade headroom.
  • 1200 – 1500W: Made for the most demanding systems: flagship GPUs, multi-GPU setups, or professional workstations.

One important note: a higher-watt PSU doesn’t make your PC “use more power” — it only provides what your system needs. What matters most is the continuous wattage rating, which ensures stable power delivery under sustained loads.

Efficiency

All NZXT PSUs carry an 80 PLUS certification, which measures how efficiently a PSU converts wall power into usable power for your PC. The higher the rating (Bronze, Gold, Platinum), the less energy is wasted as heat — meaning cooler operation, quieter fans, and less strain on your electricity bill.

We also list Cybenetics certifications, which go further by testing power supplies under real-world conditions and grading both efficiency and noise levels. Cybenetics is often stricter than 80 PLUS, which is why some of our PSUs carry higher Cybenetics ratings than their 80 PLUS badge. For example, our Platinum PSU is rated Titanium by Cybenetics, and Gold Core models earn a Cybenetics Platinum rating.

The short version: 80 PLUS is the trusted baseline for efficiency. Cybenetics adds modern testing that shows not just how efficient a PSU is, but how quietly it runs. That’s why our latest PSUs are rated by both.
