With Function 2, you can open up a whole new world of possibilities, allowing you to swap out the optical switches easily with the included tools. This allows you to change the feel of your keyboard in minutes, without any soldering. Each Function 2 keyboard also comes with two extra switch types (4 x 35 g and 4 x 45 g) to start experimenting right out of the box.
Why Go Hot Swappable?
You might be pondering, "What's the big deal with hot swappable switches?" Let us break it down for you. Firstly, flexibility is a considerable advantage. As your typing needs or gaming style evolves, so can your keyboard, adapting to your preferences without any hassle. Playing with switches that have different actuation weights allows you to give a certain feel to the games you like to play. For instance, if you want to make it harder to press ‘Q’ for an ultimate in Overwatch 2 you can put the 45-gram switch in the socket for ‘Q’ to prevent accidental press. Additionally, if you want to make it easier to jump in Valorant you can put the 35-gram switch on the space bar so that it can be easier and faster for you to do so. With the adjustable actuation feature found in NZXT CAM, you can further tailor the feel of your Function 2 keyboard to best fit the feel that you desire for your games.
Then there's longevity. Keyboards can take a beating over time, but being able to easily replace switches means your Function 2 can endure much more than the average keyboard. If a switch dies for whatever reason, you just replace that single switch and go about your day. Swapping Made Simple
"But how do I actually swap these switches?" you might wonder. It is a fairly straightforward process, and we provide the proper tools needed to do this easily:
- Keycap Removal: Start with the keycap puller to gently remove the keycap, unveiling the switch underneath.
- Switch Swap: Use the switch puller to carefully pull the old switch out. Remember, it's all about a gentle touch.
- Switch Insertion: Grab your new switch, align it with the socket, and press down until it's securely in place.
- Keycap Replacement: Just pop the keycap back on, and you're all set!
As a heads-up for the adventurous souls out there, we designed these keyboards to be compatible with our NZXT Swift Optical switches, and we can't promise that other brands of hot-swappable optical switches will work flawlessly, as they haven't been officially validated with our board. So they may not work as intended but don't let that deter you from experimenting—after all, that's half the fun of keyboard customization!
